Where have the Free Adverts gone?

Over the past few months Horse Hunter has been the target of continued scamming operations (as well as many other equestrian websites). A small number of our customers have been "conned" out of money by these criminals. We have tried to reduce the number of adverts that were being placed using a selection of technical restrictions, in part this has had a measured amount of success.

In an effort to eliminate this problem entirely we have felt it necessary to charge a nominal fee of £0.99. By charging a small amount we are able to confirm the legitimacy of our advertising customers and in addition we can detect fraud or scams far more quickly.

Horse Hunter is committed to protecting everyone that uses our website to best level that we can. We hope that you can understand our reasons for making this change and that you can continue to support us in protecting you.

Key reasons for the the nominal 99p charge:

* To prevent the placement of Scam adverts.
* To increase the protection for our visitors from the risk of being conned.
* The nominal charge provides us with the ability to better track fraud & scams.
* To reduce or prevent predatory behaviour by restricting adverts being placed by under 16's.

Please understand that we have taken these measures to make Horse Hunter as safe as possible for all to use. If you have any concerns or questions we'd be delighted to hear from you, just drop us an email.

It is with regret that I need to make all visitors aware that we have become a target of of some very disgusting people.

In the last 24 hours I have received three emails about adverts placed by teenagers (and younger) looking for Horse for Loan. These ads have attracted the attention of some very undesirable individuals who have contacted the kids by phone and/or email.

We have added a banner statement on both the registration & advert placement pages informing people of our terms of use age restrictions. No one under the age of 16 should register or place adverts on Horse Hunter. Instead it is safer for parents to place ads on behalf of their children and only detail the parents contact details. I fear some of the keywords in the adverts (such as age, gender, name & sometime quite specific addresses!) have indexed on Google and therefore made us victims of a potentially harmful crime.

I would appreciate it if you all spread the word and help keep Horse Hunter the safe community that we all know and love.

Horse Hunter - Things coming this quarter

Hi everyone,

Sorry I've not been very interactive of late! We've been quite busy making some changes in response to our survey earlier in the year. Many thanks to all who completed that! Very much appreciated!

1. The forum WILL be updated this quarter (sorry for the delay, we're working with another company on this so it's taking a bit longer than we had hoped) with the the list of issues discussed over the last few months. If there is anything in particular that you would like to see and you think others would also like this, then please let me know and i'll see if we can "make it happen" :D

2. We have video on the testing servers and its looking pretty close to ready, we hope to have it on this month, fingers crossed! You'll be able to log into your YouTube account from within Horse Hunter and see the videos that you want to use in realtime :-) as well as upload to YouTube from in HH too! Exciting times :w00t:

3. Advert reporting will be on with this phase. Scammers are on the site every day and make it very hard work for us to keep them off! We hope that with the Report feature that you guys can help us win this battle! :thumbs:

4. Are you a trader or do quite a bit of buying & selling? well we've got some great news for you! We've introduced our Frequent Advertisers Plans offering a MASSIVE 50% Premium or Featured listings! Check it out here; http://www.horsehunter.co.uk/fap/

It doesnt sound we've done a lot over the last few months but its been a lot of hard work getting all the things working properly!

Sorry for the outage this morning, we had some datacentre issues to contend with which resulted in Horse Hunter being offline for 3 hours! :-(

EXCITING NEWS! - New Search + More!

Hey everyone!

After a few weeks of hard work we've got some new stuff ready for the website. On Monday 25th Jan we'll be putting the enhanced Search facility on!

You'll be able to search by County, Region or by Country.

In addition to the search we've added the option for Colour (one of TH's suggestions). Initially not all ads will have this as older ads won't have had the colour specified. If you have an ad already you can go back and edit it to specify the colour :thumbs:

One final little thing, we've changed the thumbnail pictures (on new adverts) so that they don't distort (one of JV's suggestions). The image will be cropped to a square with most of the centre of the picture in frame.

This will mean the completion of our Phase 1 changes. There's more to come which includes Video YAY! If anyone has other suggestions just post your replies here and we'll see if we can make them reality :P
